Pawlicious Dog Birthday Cake Recipe
Sorry it has been such a long time between posts. With 3 dogs and a cat to take care of, not to mention a husband, life has certainly been busy. However, good things come to dogs that wait. Below is a dog birthday cake recipe that will certainly get the drool flowing. As always, I must remind you that chocolate and dogs do not mix. Though it may appear as if I have used chocolate chips in this recipe, what you actually see are carob chips (a dog-safe chocolate substitute). Enjoy, and may your next dog party be the howl of the town.
Pawlicious Banana & Peanut Butter Birthday Cake
Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 Cups whole wheat flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4th Cup honey
- 1/3 Cup unsalted peanut butter
- One 6 ounce jar of banana baby food
- One large egg
- One cup reduced fat milk
- 1/4th Cup carob chips
- 1/4th Cup unsalted peanuts (I use dry roasted)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine honey, peanut butter, egg, milk and baby food. Blend well. Slowly add in the flour and baking powder. Combine all ingredients until batter has formed. Note: batter will be sticky. Pour batter into greased, bone-shaped pan. If you do not have a bone-shaped pan, any 8-9 inch round cake pan will do. Sprinkle carob chips and peanuts over batter. Put into oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until knife inserted into center comes out clean. Cool completely. Store in an air-tight container for up to 3 days. After 3 days, freeze. Woof!
