With 3 dogs and a cat to take care of, not to mention a husband, life has certainly been busy. However, good things come to dogs that wait. Below is a dog birthday cake recipe that will certainly get the drool flowing. As always, I must remind you that chocolate and dogs do not mix. Though it may appear as if I have used chocolate chips in this recipe, what you actually see are carob chips (a dog-safe chocolate substitute). Enjoy, and may your next dog party be the howl of the town.

Pawlicious Banana & Peanut Butter Birthday Cake

Ingredients:

2 1/2 Cups whole wheat flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4th Cup honey

1/3 Cup unsalted peanut butter

One 6 ounce jar of banana baby food

One large egg

One cup reduced fat milk

1/4th Cup carob chips

1/4th Cup unsalted peanuts (I use dry roasted)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine honey, peanut butter, egg, milk and baby food. Blend well. Slowly add in the flour and baking powder. Combine all ingredients until batter has formed. Note: batter will be sticky. Pour batter into greased, bone-shaped pan. If you do not have a bone-shaped pan, any 8-9 inch round cake pan will do. Sprinkle carob chips and peanuts over batter. Put into oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until knife inserted into center comes out clean. Cool completely. Store in an air-tight container for up to 3 days. After 3 days, freeze. Woof!

Sorry it has been so long since my last post. Life has been very busy…after all, I do have three dogs and one cat to take care of…not to mention a husband! This post will be quick, but good (for your dog anyway!). I have had many requests for dog birthday party cake recipes and of course, dog icing recipes. Well, if you have not already checked out Kylie’s Dog Friendly Birthday Cake, please do. It is pawlicious! I promise to post another dog birthday cake recipe soon. In the meantime, please enjoy the recipe below.

Peanut Butter Banana Blondies

Dog birthday cakes are wonderful; however, have you considered serving blondies at your next dog party?! Trust me, these delicious peanut butter, banana blondies will have your doggie guests howling with joy. They are easy to make and are loaded with healthy ingredients. Speaking of ingredients, I must point out that CAROB CHIPS are used in this recipe…NOT CHOCOLATE. Remember, chocolate is a big no-no when it comes to dogs. Carob is a great chocolate substitute that will make your dog drool (in a good way!). Enjoy!

Ingredients:

Two Cups of Oat Flour

1 teaspoon of Baking Powder

2 Eggs

1 Jar of Banana Baby Food

½ Cup of Honey

½ Cup of Peanut Butter (I used low-fat, low sodium)

¼ Cup of Canola Oil

1 Cup of Carob Chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine oat flour, baking powder, and eggs. Mix well. Next, combine baby food, peanut butter, honey and oil. Mix until blended completely. Finally add in the carob chips. Pour batter into a lightly greased, nine inch square baking pan (I used PAM BAKING SPRAY). Bake for 25 to 30 minutes (top should be golden brown in color). Cool completely on a wire rack and then cut into squares. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Enjoy…WOOF!

Now you all probably know by now that I LOVE to bake homemade treats for my dogs but I figured I would give the instant mix a try just for fun. This mix will come in handy if you are planning a dog party and are not fond of cooking from scratch! Instant cake mixes for dogs also come in handy if you are short on time…and who isn’t these days!

The people at Puppy Cake sell a GREAT cake mix that is dog friendly and super delicious (ok, I don’t know that it is delicious…but according to my dogs…it is!). The dog cupcake mix comes in two flavors…carob (remember, NO CHOCOLATE for dogs) and banana. Each box also comes with a small packet of instant frosting. Of course, you can make your own frosting (which is what I did). The cupcake mixes are all natural (whole wheat flour, honey powder, baking powder, carob, etc). You can also purchase sprinkles (YES, I said sprinkles) if you wish to add a decorative touch to the finished cakes.

Dog friendly cupcakes are sure to impress all of the guests at your dog party (especially the humans). To see pictures of my dogs eating dog friendly cupcakes….please visit my Beagle website. If you happen to make some cupcakes for YOUR dog…please let me know how they turn out. I would also love to see some photos of your pooch with their dog friendly cupcakes. Happy Spring..enjoy!
