Dog Birthday Party Etiquette and Tips
In order to have a fun and friendly dog birthday party there are a few things you should do…….
- Make sure that all of the dogs that you invite are socialized and friendly! Though it is often difficult to predict how a group of dogs will react to one another when in a group setting, play it safe and invite dogs that YOU KNOW get along well with others. Good doggie party manners are a must!
- It is important to be earth friendly! Bring garbage bags for clean-up and small plastic bags for scooping poop! Don’t be a party pooper…leave Mother Earth just as you found her….if not better!
- Know your limitations! If you are throwing your pup a birthday party in a large outdoor setting, then obviously, you can invite more furry guests than if you are hosting the party in your home. Don’t invite more dogs than you can handle! If you do, things could quickly get out of control.
- I’m thirsty! Be sure to provide plenty of cool, fresh water for your canine guests. Partying is hard work and your furry friends are sure to become parched! Don’t forget to bring portable doggie water bowls to your event.
- If you are serving birthday cake to your guests (doggie guests, that is) be sure to let their parents know the ingredients of your dog friendly birthday cake. Some dogs have sensitive stomachs and/or food allergies. Better to be safe than sorry! You may want to write the recipe on recipe cards and give it to each owner. That way, they will know exactly what their pups are eating and if they wish…they can make it themselves at a later date!
- Thank you for Coming! Giving favors to each guest as they leave the party is a wonderful and thoughtful thing to do. And trust me, your gesture will be appreciated (by dog and owner alike!). However, make sure that the favors you give are appropriate. For example, small toys that come apart easily are not a good for large dogs that may easily choke on them. Favors should be chosen according to the size and type of dog.
